(Washington DC June 29, 2020) The latest Associated Press report about the forced birth control and sterilization of Uyghurs is a confirmation of Justice For All’s stance that the Chinese oppression of the Uyghur and other ethnic groups is a systematic and slow but progressing genocide.

According to the UN Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group: Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group.

This is not just a cultural genocide as is often widely cited.

All the  conditions of genocide are met for the Uyghur population. Punishing and detaining people for having the number of children allowed by law, forced abortions, sterilizations, IUD insertions are all way to finish a population.

Hena Zuberi, Director of Justice For All stated “We ask for a UN investigation into this as soon as possible. China has stalled investigations in the past, but international pressure should be brought on China to stop their extermination of the Uyghur population.”

“Grateful to see that this has finally made official news. We’ve been saying for too long that this is a genocide, and not just a cultural one. We finally have evidence that shows China’s attempt to physically wipe out the Uyghur population. If not immediately, then slowly and secretly,” stated Aydin Anwar, Outreach Coordinator for Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign on the release of the Associated Press report.
