Save Uyghur Applauds Letter from 39 countries condemning China

Justice For All under its Save Uyghur campaign applauds the recent news that 39 countries have strongly condemned China’s persecution of Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in East Turkestan (Xinjiang) during the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee on the 6th of October 2020.
Some of these nations include Britain, Canada, the United States, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Haiti, Honduras, Palau, the Marshall Islands, and other European Union member states.

On behalf of all 39 countries at the UN Committee, Germany’s UN ambassador Christoph Heusgen stated, “We are gravely concerned about the human rights situation in Xinjiang and the recent developments in Hong Kong,”

The statement goes on to mention the gravely worrying, and ever-increasing number of ‘political re-education’ camps in East Turkestan. Over 1 million Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples have been reported to be locked up in detainment camps. Other human rights violations include widespread intrusive surveillance practices, religious and cultural suppression, and family separation initiatives.

15 Muslim-majority countries that previously had signed in support of China’s brutal crackdown on Xinjiang, have also now withdrawn their support, including Algeria, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Chad, Djibouti, Kuwait, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. However while many countries have retracted their support, a number of them have stayed silent and not chosen to speak out against China.

Justice For All is disappointed to see that 45 countries, including 13 Muslim-majority countries, have shown their firm support of China’s so called “counter-terrorism and deradicalization measures” in East Turkestan, by a joint statement led by Cuba. We call on global organizations to condemn these atrocious moves from their respective governments and condemn the Chinese government for its genocide on the Uyghurs and other Turkic people.
