The 2025 Annual Report by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has once again highlighted China as a country engaging in systematic and egregious violations of religious freedom. Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign calls for immediate global intervention to address these persistent human rights abuses faced by the Uyghur Muslims in Chinese-occupied East Turkistan.
The report underscores China’s intensified “sinicization of religion” policy led by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Xi Jinping, imposing extreme restrictions on religious practices and demanding unwavering loyalty to the state above all else. Notably, the Uyghur Muslims in East Turkistan continue to be disproportionately targeted, facing persecution, imprisonment, and systematic cultural erasure.
Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All, stated:
“The USCIRF report is a powerful indictment of China’s blatant disregard for religious freedom. We must stand united in condemning these transgressions and demand accountability from Chinese leaders. History will not look kindly on those who remained silent in the face of genocide and cultural annihilation. We, as a global community, must act decisively to end this oppression.”
Arslan Hidayat, Team Lead of the Save Uyghur Campaign, added:
“The ongoing repression of Uyghurs, including forced indoctrination and the weaponization of technology for surveillance, is a stain on humanity’s conscience. The CCP’s strategy to transnationally suppress dissent and intimidate Uyghur diaspora communities has created a climate of fear and oppression around the world. It’s imperative that the international community implements the USCIRF recommendations to counter these violations effectively.”
The Save Uyghur Campaign advocates for USCIRF’s strong recommendations to the U.S. Government, including the redesignation of China as a “country of particular concern” and the imposition of sanctions on Chinese officials responsible for religious freedom violations. There is an urgent need for coordinated efforts with international partners to address China’s use of technology in suppressing religious freedoms. We also support legislative initiatives to tighten restrictions on China’s misuse of technology facilitating human rights abuses. The call to action emphasizes the necessity of diversifying supply chains and countering economic dependencies that enable China’s oppressive practices.
