On the third anniversary of the Uyghur Genocide Recognition Day, observed on December 9, 2021, Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign calls on the international community to fulfill its moral and legal obligations to recognize and act against the ongoing genocide of the Uyghur people by the Chinese government.

The date marks a pivotal point when the Uyghur Tribunal, a people’s tribunal based in the United Kingdom, released its independent findings. The tribunal concluded that the government of the People’s Republic of China had committed genocide against the Uyghurs through coercive birth control and sterilization measures. Furthermore, they uncovered evidence of crimes against humanity, including torture and sexual abuse.

“The recognition of these atrocities as genocide was a critical step forward,” stated Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All. “However, the recognition is not enough—we need global action to end these atrocities. We stand together remembering the victims and vow to amplify our call for justice and accountability.”

Despite the tribunal’s independent status, China initiated an aggressive campaign to discredit its findings, even imposing sanctions against the tribunal’s organizers and labeling the tribunal’s work as “sheer fiction” with “paid actors.” These sanctions drew condemnation from notable global leaders, including the British Prime Minister, and resulted in the British Foreign Secretary summoning the Chinese ambassador.

Arslan Hidayat, Save Uyghur Team Lead, stressed, “The Chinese government’s attempts to vilify and silence those who are uncovering the truth must be met with resistance and resolve. We implore all governments to recognize these findings officially and take tangible steps to halt these egregious human rights abuses.”

Justice For All urges immediate and concrete actions, including recognizing the genocide formally, implementing targeted sanctions against Chinese officials responsible, and increasing humanitarian efforts to support Uyghur refugees and those affected by these heinous crimes.
